How to Use StableAim – The Right Way

StableAim is a training tool designed to improve your head stability, alignment, and focus using peripheral vision. Here's how to use it correctly:

✅ Step-by-Step Guide:

  1. Clip StableAim to your hat brim
Find your preferred position on the hat brim. The clip should be securely fastened. Start in the middle of the brim and work towards the side that feels more natural.
  2. Position it properly
Make sure the vertical line is straight and the sight hangs just in front of you — not too close or too far.
  3. Use Peripheral Vision
Do not stare directly at the lines. Instead, look “through” it like a windshield. Let the lines exist in your side vision — this helps train awareness without distraction.
  4. Keep both eyes open
Using only one eye reduces effectiveness. Trust your brain to process the sight passively.
  5. Start swinging
As you move, notice if the lines shift, tilt, or sway. This means your head is moving. Your goal: keep the lines still and level as you swing.

Putting: ZERO movement
Chipping/Short Game: Zero/Minimal movement
Fuller swing: Some movement of the lines is okay, but stay within the line grid.

🧠 Pro Tip:

During the backswing on a full swing stay as stable as possible, however on the follow through let your head move naturally and not attempting to keep it still any longer. We do not promote a completely static head.

🧠 Pro Tip:

Think of the cross like a reference point, not a target. You’re not “watching” it — you’re aware of it. That’s where the training magic happens.

How to Use StableAim — Golf Tool
Above is the orientation for a right-handed player when StableAim is attached to the hat and looking down at the ball. Flip the circle to the left side of vertical line for left-handed players.

  • The vertical line represents your "wall." During the swing, it should remain as vertical as possible, supporting better balance and coordination.
  • Use the wall as a cue: your hands move to the right of the wall on the backswing, then lead the club back through the wall on the downswing. If the club beats your hands to the wall, it could indicate a hand flip – something to avoid.
  • The horizontal line helps guide balance and direction. It should stay level during the swing and serves as an alignment aid. The left side of the line shows the ideal direction for ball flight.
  • At setup, align your shoulders square to the horizontal line, with feet and chest matching. This builds a strong, squared foundation.
  • The circle is a visual anchor. Ideally, the ball is centered in the circle. For putting, place the ball within the circle and close to the wall. For irons, position it in the middle. With a driver, ball placement just left of center along the horizontal line often yields optimal results. StableAim is a versatile tool—explore different alignments for different clubs.

Head Movement Levels

  • Putting: Zero head movement. StableAim lines should stay perfectly still.
  • Chipping/Short Game: Minimal movement. Slight backswing sway is okay, but follow-through should feel natural with the shoulders.
  • Full Swing: Allow for minor movement during the backswing (e.g., ball may shift within the circle or lightly cross the wall), but stay within the visual grid. On the downswing and follow-through, your head should flow naturally. While it's not advised to keep your head static post-impact, the backswing should maintain structure. Some of the smoothest swings in golf (Jake Knapp, Fred Couples) exhibit minimal head movement even after contact.

Step-by-Step Instructions

Step 1: Setup
Clip StableAim onto the bill of your cap. Ensure the lines are visible in your peripheral vision when addressing the ball. Align yourself with your target—whether it’s the hole, a fairway spot, or a specific practice point.

Step 2: Stance
Stand parallel to your target line. Make sure your feet, hips, and shoulders are aligned accordingly. The visual lines from StableAim will help you check and correct setup imbalances.

Step 3: Swing Awareness
As you make your swing, use the visual lines to stay aware of unnecessary head movement. Keeping your head stable promotes better contact, improved accuracy, and more consistent swings.

Step 4: Evaluate and Adjust
After each swing, take note of your visual experience. Did the lines shift dramatically? Did you stay centered? Adjust your posture, alignment, or tempo as needed and try again.

Tips for Best Results

  • Start with short pitch shots or chips to get familiar with the visual feedback.
  • Use StableAim regularly to build muscle memory and train proper movement patterns.
  • Use a mirror or record your swing to see how visual stability translates into motion.
  • Consider integrating feedback from coaches or pros to accelerate progress.
